Hank Kraichely’s CB&Q “K” Line

My double deck layout represents the CB&Q railroad's (K) line from St. Louis to Hannibal, Missouri and a branch from Old Monroe to the GM&O's KC line which provided a short cut to Kansas City. One design goal was a RR that allowed the operator to feel they were actually traveling a distance. Thus a single 500 foot main with passing sidings serving 6 small towns. Also modeled are a 22' X 3' long Portland Cement Plant and a 7' X 4' X 20 inch deep quarry on the banks of the Missouri River. My second objective was to avoid using a helix so I have a ramp running in front of the backdrop to a shelf under the Hannibal Yard on the 2nd level. Suppling traffic are two staging yards, one for each level, with 10 and 8 tracks plus 4 turns working out of the yard. 13 steps to the basement without a duckunder.
