Jim Spencer’s layout is located in Pasadena.
Jim's HO layout features beautiful models with custom made photo backdrops. The benchwork is cantilevered foam sheets with a sound-suppressing membrane laminated underneath. The layout location under the house is called a "California Basement" as it was excavated from the hillside. A helix connects the future lower level narrow gauge railroad to the standard gauge Salida, Colorado yard, and a large roundhouse and turntable sits above the helix. Jim is a precise modeler, and he made trips to Colorado to use his perspective-correction lens to photograph the exact scenes for his backdrops.
